Financial Recovery Tool Methodology

Every tool explains what it calculates, what it leaves out, and which decisions still require a qualified counselor, attorney, tax professional, or servicer.

Hardship finder

The finder uses the selected bill type, timing, and desired outcome to build a preparation route. It separates deadline protection, records to gather, official sources, and counselor-screening guidance. It does not determine program eligibility, calculate local legal deadlines, send applications, rank providers, or store responses. Open the hardship-program and counselor finder to see the routing questions and result format.

Debt payoff planner

The calculator applies the entered annual percentage rate as a monthly rate, adds each month’s estimated interest, and subtracts the fixed payment. It reports the first payment’s interest and principal split, payoff duration, total interest, total paid, and selected balance checkpoints. It assumes no new charges, no fees, a stable rate, and payments made on time. If payment does not exceed monthly interest, it stops instead of presenting a false payoff date. Test the stated assumptions in the debt payoff and interest calculator.

Hardship call planner

The call planner combines the selected account type, account stage, hardship, expected duration, affordable amount, and requested review. It uses account-specific question sets for mortgage, credit-card, rent, utility, auto-loan, and other creditor calls. Its printable brief is preparation language, not a creditor agreement, application, or legal response. Build an account-specific brief with the financial hardship call planner.

30-day bill calendar

The calendar orders entered deposits and bills across a rolling 30-day window, applies income before bills when both share a date, and reports the first negative day and lowest projected balance. It does not predict bank holds, overdraft fees, returned payments, account-specific grace periods, or legal priority. Map dated income and bill pressure in the 30-day bill calendar and cash-flow planner.

Privacy

Core tools run locally in the browser. HOPE.you does not ask for Social Security numbers, account credentials, or full account numbers. The privacy policy explains local storage, server records, and third-party technology.

How to read a HOPE.you result

A result is an estimate

A calculator applies the displayed inputs and assumptions. It does not know future fees, rate changes, missed payments, or a creditor's decision.

A route is not an eligibility decision

The finder points to official programs and qualified help. The responsible agency or provider decides whether its rules are met.

A private input can still be sensitive

The tools run in the browser, but readers should avoid typing account numbers, passwords, or identity documents into free-text fields.
